Stripes Presents Scholarship Donations at Island University

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas— The generous donations made by Stripes Store customers toward college scholarships were recognized Friday with a special check presentation at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
“I am excited and thankful for the support of Stripes and Stripes customers throughout the Coastal Bend who invested in our students,” said Dr. Flavius Killebrew, President and CEO of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. “The more than $100,000 in student scholarships funds raised through the in-store fundraising campaign in December put more than 100 students closer to achieving their educational goals.”
Many of the scholarship recipients were on hand for the event. A&M-Corpus Christi is one of 18 colleges and universities throughout the state that participated in the scholarship drive.
In its first year, the Stripes Scholarship Fund helped raise a total of $545,000 from all 580 stores in the Stripes operating area that covers Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.
“We will make a difference in the lives of our youth by investing in them today through college scholarships,” said Eduardo Pereda, Stripes Vice President of Marketing. “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of our customers for contributing over half a million dollars to further the education of so many students.”
The four-week, in-store fundraising campaign was held at all Stripes locations throughout the Stripes operating area from December 2-29, 2013. Stripes customers purchased $1 Stripes College Scholarship Fund paper cut-outs during the December 2013 campaign to help local students obtain a college education. The 2014 Stripes College Scholarship Fund in-store campaign will be held again beginning on December 1, 2014.
